New Parkinson’s Treatment is a Game Changer

Recognising Extraordinary Treatment

As Clinical Negligence Solicitors, there is a misconception that, in bringing claims for negligence against the NHS, we do not support the NHS. This is far from the case and instead, we are proud to support the NHS when it provides care of the standard that is deserved by those using the NHS. We seek to hold the NHS to account when care falls below an acceptable standard, causing avoidable injury, harm and loss.

Whilst it is the case that a clinical negligence claim focuses on failings, we recognise the many wonderful achievements of the NHS and the vital service that it provides.

One such example of this is was recently shared by NHS England, who shared a video on their Instagram showing a newly available treatment known as Prouodopa, which is used to make the symptoms of Parkison’s more manageable for those with late-stage Parkinson’s disease.

It is clear from the video that the treatment offered to Damien has made a remarkable difference to his everyday symptoms in only a matter of days. Damien explained “the massive difference is that there are now no fluctuations” and his sleeping is so much better.

What is Parkison’s?

Parkison’s is a condition that relates to parts of the brain which unfortunately get worse over time.  People with Parkinson’s usually experience their symptoms starting slowly with the first symptoms sometimes being a barely noticeable tremor to one hand, stiffness or movement slowing down.

Everyone’s experience with Parkinson’s is different. It is important to see your GP if you are concerned that you may have symptoms of Parkinson’s, so that they can be investigated.

If left untreated for a delayed period, the individual may experience speech problems, trouble sleeping, pain and mental health difficulties.

Whilst Parkinson’s currently has no cure, medications can substantially improve the symptoms, and the video from the NHS is proof in itself.

Everyone receiving medical care is entitled to receive care of an appropriate standard and if you have received care that you believe has fallen below such a standard, whether concerning Parkinson’s Disease or any other condition, we may be able to assist.

If you have concerns about treatment received from the NHS or indeed any other health professional, please do not hesitate to contact our experienced Clinical Negligence team on 01482 323697.
