Breast Cancer Awareness Month

On the 18th October 2024, the team in the Compensation Department will be wearing it pink to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast Cancer Now is on a mission so that everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives and is supported to live well by 2050. They have raised over £41 million towards breast cancer research and support to date.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK with over 55,000 people diagnosed every year. There are a number of signs and symptoms to be aware of with breast cancer. These include:

1. A lump or swelling in the breast, upper chest or armpit
2. A change to the skin, such as puckering or dimpling
3. A change in the colour of the breast – the breast may look darker, red or inflamed
4. A nipple change, for example it has become pulled in (inverted)
5. Rash or crusting around the nipple
6. Unusual liquid (discharge) from either nipple
7. Changes in size or shape of the breast

Although it is rare, men can get breast cancer, the most common symptom in men is a lump in the chest area.

Check your breasts using the TLC method: Touch, Look, Check. If you can feel anything new or unusual, or is anything looks different, check with your GP. You should be checking regularly to be aware of any new changes. The whole breast area should be checked, up to your collarbone and armpits.
