World Mental Health Day – 10 October 2024

Reading Time: 2 minutes

‘Even though 1 in 4 people have mental health problems, most of us don’t get the help we need.’ – Mind

10 October is World Mental Health Day. This day is for education, awareness and advocacy surrounding mental health as society still has a long way to go in understanding mental health and making it a priority. For example, there are currently more than 2 million people on waiting lists for mental health support. For Mind, the mental health charity, they recognise the need for change, their mission statement being to change minds, support minds and connect minds; they are fighting to ensure that everyone with a mental health problem has access to excellent care and services and are treated fairly, positively and with respect.

Suffering from poor mental health

This month, two of our clinical negligence team, Abigail and Megan, are walking 10,000 steps a day, in order to raise money for Mind, as well as awareness for individuals suffering with mental health difficulties. Abigail has explained her reasons for wanting to support this fundraising challenge and Mind generally, namely:

“I have experienced losing someone to suicide. It is the most difficult thing to comprehend. I am doing the 10,000 steps to help raise awareness and support those who have not only lost someone to suicide but those who have the suicidal thoughts. I am hoping to raise £150.00, which should assist 15 people with their mental health. I know with this month and the support of this month, this can help reduce the people to go through this same situation, have someone to talk to about their mental health and help is readily available for those who need it.”

The money raised as part of the 10,000 step challenge will go towards Mind running vital services, such as their Infoline and online community, Side by Side. To make a donation, please follow the link below:
